2019 has been a pretty awesome year for Londoner Katie MF. Her 'contagious, punch-the-air folk/punk' has gone from strength to strength, including the mid-year highlight of supporting Frank Turner at his No Man's Land album release show.
Together with her band, Tobias (drums) and Ben (bass), she's opened for transatlantic pals Spanish Love Songs, Pkew Pkew Pkew, Western Settings, Kris Roe, David Rovics and a host of others in the last 12 months. The band (also called Katie MF, but they're working on that) also embarked on their first tour to Scotland in support of second EP, Everything Trouble Meant.
Their raucous, energetic and thoughtful live set is not to be missed, from the all out punk of Apocalypse to the Clash-inspired dance-along Leather Jacket, with a sprinkling of political comment in-between: Brexit and break-ups go well together.
With two EPs now out there in the world as well as a follow-up single (including a b side because well, why not), Katie and the boys are scheming on the next steps - a UK tour in spring 2020, followed by a festival summer and a full album pencilled for the end of the year are just a couple of the things coming together.

Bouncing around the stage, shredding her guitar and showcasing her wonderful vocals, there just aren't many people with a better stage presence. She's just captivating......Far and away the best hour of music I've seen this year and I'm not sure anything is going to top it.
- Colin's Punk Rock World
She sung her songs with attitude and with one of the most authentic voices you would expect to hear from solo performers today, and produced a fantastic acoustic guitar sound. Talking between the songs made the audiences laugh and she definitely made the venue in the cold night feel warmer.

The contagious punch the air folk punk of Mr Cameron, Mr Gove from "pissed off" London singer Katie MF is the latest in a growing collection of new political anthems, and one of my favourites so far.
